What’s On Near The Comet This November

Things will soon be taking a wintery turn, and our thoughts are turning towards Christmas and the festive season. This month we will take a look at some more party oriented events and a chance to get ahead of the Christmas rush. But there’s more to November than preparing for the festivities ahead.

Remembrance Sunday And Armistice Day Service

First, let’s look at Remembrance Sunday, when the nation comes together to remember the fallen from The Great War, the Second World War, and more recent conflicts. Like all towns in the UK, Hatfield marks this sombre occasion with some civic events. On Friday November 11th The Armistice Day Service at the War Graves will take place at 11am. Armistice Day commemorates the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven in the morning—the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. This is followed by Remembrance Sunday, on November 13th. A Service will be held in the Memorial Garden, starting with a parade from the Red Lion at 10.45am. All are welcome to attend.

Hertford Museum

Now let’s move to Hertford Museum. A short journey from us in Hatfield, our county museum is an intriguing spot, with collections including archaeology, paper ephemera, ethnography, fine art, geology, natural history, photographs, social history and the Hertfordshire Regiment collection. It’s also home to the Addis company archive, which includes the largest collection of toothbrushes in the world. Not something you see everyday!

This month the museum hosts a few fun events for all the family. November 1st is Toddler Tuesday At Hertford Museum: Fabulous Fireworks!  Go along for crafts, singing, stories and fun for the Under 4s. Perfect for the little ones! November 12th sees You’re The Voice! Superstar Karaoke At Hertford Museum. A chance to release your inner mega star as the museum becomes an intimate club venue for the night! Think Glamour, Razzmatazz and a great night out with your friends!  With free entry and a licensed bar, this is a night in the museum with a difference.  Lastly, how about a Christmas Extravaganza At Hertford Museum? Drop in for Carol Singing, Christmassy crafts and of course Father Christmas in his magical grotto on November 25th.
