It’s already decidedly autumnal and the leaves are turning as we head into the darker nights ahead. But don’t worry, there’s still lots happening nearby to keep you entertained when you visit us here at The Comet London Hatfield. Let’s dive in!

 

Herts Oktoberfest

It’s October, so why not? Herts Oktoberfest is an authentic German bier fest experience right here in Hertfordshire! Enjoy German beer, accompanied by a live Oompah band & other local artists, in a circus-style big top. You’ll also enjoy a swinging grill & food stalls, and even some axe throwing! How’s that for a knees up?  Head on down October 7th to 9th.

Hatfield House and Hatfield Park

Meanwhile, nearby Hatfield House has a number of events as always. October 9th is the Willow 10k, back for 2022 and this year with a new look. As well as the 10k and 5k runs, the event now includes a Family Fun Run. The Willow 10K is a great event for beginners and experienced runners or walkers. The scenic course takes you on a route through the picturesque grounds of Hatfield House, providing a unique opportunity to explore hidden parts of the estate not normally open to the public.

Moreover, why not keep it autumnal this October Half Term with a visit to Hatfield Park? Ideal for the kids, Park Trailer rides will be running each day on the hour from 11am to 3pm, from October 22nd. helping you explore that little bit more. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled, there may be a few surprises along the way!

St. Albans Cathedral

Finally, let’s take a short ride to St. Albans Cathedral. Not just a stunning and ancient cathedral, worthy of a visit in its own right, but also the venue for many interesting events, which this month include workshops, a free concert and a breathtaking light show:

October 15th – Creative Writing Workshop: Moments of Illumination. Timed to coincide with the evenings drawing in, and the Autumn light show at the Cathedral, this workshop offers a peaceful space to spotlight creative writing.

October 19th – Organ concert: Luke Fitzgerald. All are welcome; the recital will last around 30 minutes and admission is free, with a retiring collection in aid of Cathedral music funds.

October 25-29th – Science | Lighting up our Universe This October half term, journey through creation with a stunning science themed light show at St Albans Cathedral. Science | Lighting Up Our Universe is the third show in a trilogy by Luxmuralis and will have audiences walking through the history of science, showing the ways in which scientists have shaped the past and will influence the future.

October 26-30th – Tower Tours Climb the 211 steps up to the top of the oldest Cathedral tower in Britain and experience fantastic views of St Albans. On the way up, see the Cathedral’s magnificent Rose Window up close, explore the roof spces and visit the ringing and bell chambers, before the final climb onto the roof of the tower.
